Ferst's painting style is joyful, juicy, and flamboyant. He is a colorist and loves painting the scenery, particularly the sunrise and sunsets, of the southwestern US desert he calls home. This painting evolved from a recent trip to San Miguel and is created through brush- and hand-applied vibrant colors of oil stick, oil pastel, and pastel. Each layer adds more depth and interest to the painting. Like a conversation, the painting dictates what it needs as the creative process is played out.
