  • Confetti Rain 2. landscape impressionist
    By Katherine Kean
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
Rain on the windshield falls in fat, colorful drops, and rivulets. Painted in layers and textured with thick and thin paint. This one in a series of "windshield paintings" is painterly, brushy, and slightly textured. It is painted on gallery wrapped linen over 1 1/2 inch deep stretchers, with color matched, hand painted edges, wired with finger friendly coated wire and ready for installation. From the artist: An unexpected, but welcome rain, as experienced from a place of comfort. My windshield paintings aim to capture these fleeting and intimate moments in time and reveal the serene center that can arise in the midst of natures turbulence. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. Born in West Virginia, moving later to Ohio and New Jersey, but growing up mainly in Massachusetts, she attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in Film, Video and Animation. Long fascinated by the intersection of order and chaos in the natural world, Katherine Kean skillfully uses observation, memory, and interpretation to translate her love of natures kinetic phenomena into paintings that capture the often turbulent emotions within light, weather, and landscapes. Her work has exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States, including the LACMA Art Rental and Sales Gallery and the Brand Library Art Gallery in Los Angeles...

Katherine Kean: Rain on the windshield makes a fine mist that creates a sparkling, atmospheric veil, between you and the rest of the world. This one in a series of "windshield paintings" is painterly, brushy, a little bit textured, and slightly raised, particularly for the drops. It is painted on gallery wrapped linen, with hand painted edges. From the artist: An unexpected, but welcome rain, as experienced from a place of comfort. • Rain Dots landscape impressionistic
    By Katherine Kean
    Located in Palm Desert, CA
Drops of rain reflect bright lights and punctuate the soft, tonal background of a rainy day. The windshield highlights the contrast of an intimate experience within and the effect of the elements outside. Both painterly and playful while striking a midpoint between pure representation and an emphasis on the picture plane. Painted on a cradled gesso board panel, with 1 1/2 inch deep, smooth wood edges. Suitable for framing or beautiful left as is. A childhood of moving and traveling around the United States has shaped Katherine Kean's vision, as have journeys to eastern Africa, Mexico, Scotland, France and painting jaunts all over Kean's now native California. This is a 'Plein Air" landscape Painting by Jane Chapin as seen in the viewing room exhibition on Silas VON MORISSE GALLERY. “Plein-Air” is the French expression to describe the act of painting in situ within the landscape, capturing the ever changing weather and light with tonal qualities, colour, loose brushwork and softness of form... The practice of “Plein Air Painting” goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists such as Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir who were advocating of plein air painting. Much of their work was done outdoors in the diffuse light of a large white umbrella. Another major proponent of Plein Air was Jean Baptiste Camille Corot whom Claude Monet considered as “The only One Master here”. Corot provides a transition from the sharp academic style that ruled in his day with focus on the natural world and the lyrical expressiveness of one's work. With her "Plein Air Paintings", Jane Chapin is part of one of the largest art movements in history. Her paintings carry human emotions. We can read her moods and feelings with places that carry deep remembrances for the artist that go beyond the descriptive. "My paintings grow from observing and interpretating light as it emerges from, surrounds and reflects on everyday people and scenes. They seek to remind us of the beauty of our common surroundings, regardless of where we are." - Jane Chapin Jane Chapin Painting the Land of the Free...
