It has hung in Museum exhibitions and hangs in Korea, Turkey and England. Artist statement: I am a child of the Atchafalaya Basin, whose rivers and marshes run through the history of my family. Having been raised as a fur trapper’s son, in the United States largest swamp wilderness, I could always see the beauty in our coastal waters. The ever-changing lights, sounds and smells still resonate in my memory as if they were yesterday. After a 40-year absence, I returned to the marshes of my childhood and what I witnessed east of the basin was the degradation of our coastal wetlands. I had to put it on canvas. I had never offered my painting to the world; now it was a must. The Love I have the river and the Atchafalaya Basin is profound. Our marshes must be returned to it’s glory. Passionate about political and social issues, she often touches these subjects in her art. Salska's paintings remarkable achievement is the creation of a sustained emotional effect despite multiple narrative tensions. There is a sense of quiet power, of emergence and beginnings, of wisdom against an anticipated struggle. Sometimes she uses pseudonym “Uba Owl” in her practice. Joanna Salska as Uba Owl has created a foundation of a new artistic direction which she calls "Alterrealism.” It is an interdisciplinary movement connecting arts and sciences. The main purpose of Alterrealism is to describe a hidden reality in a world dominated and determined by new mass media Her work has been shown at Foster Goldstrom Fine Arts, Allrich Gallery, PII, Roszkowska Galleries and others. Artist Biography: Romeo Tabuena is a Philippine-born painter rooted in Eastern sensibility. He has been a resident of Mexico for more than four decades. Born in Lloilo in 1921, he studied architecture at the Mapua Institute of Technology and a fine arts course, majoring in painting, at the University of the Philippines. He also studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. Tabuena decided to settle in Mexico and to make it the base of his painting career. But he has maintained links with his native country through participation in its major art projects, and despite his long residence in Mexico, he has retained his Philippine citizenship. One of his major works since 1957 is a government-commissioned mural, Filipiniana, at the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. His other exhibits include a ten-year retrospective show in 1959 at the Philippine Art Gallery in Manila.
