Allison Gildersleeve
A Ragtag Army

2016

About

Allison Gildersleeve's work addresses the vibration between clarity and abstraction and the known and unknown. Drawing from landscapes and dense scenes of nature, her high chroma paintings flirt with a recognizable sense of space, echoing formal languages of Terry Winters, Amy Sillman, Mamma Andersson, Per Kirkeby, Pollock, Kiefer, DeKooning, and Van Gogh. Allison Gildersleeve is originally from New England and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Gildersleeve received a Masters in Fine Art at Bard College in 2004, and a Bachelor of Arts from College of William and Mary in 1992. Solo exhibitions include Galleri Andersson/Sandstrom, Stockholm, Sweden, Michael Steinberg Fine Art, New York, NY, Robischon Gallery, Denver, CO, and Cynthia Reeves, Hanover, NH. Two-person exhibitions include Johansson Projects, Oakland, CA, Allegra LaViola Gallery, New York, NY, PS122, New York, NY, and Sara Nightingale Gallery, Watermill, NY. She has been awarded a NYFA Fellowship in Painting, and residencies at Yaddo, Millay Colony, and Vermont Studio Center.
