A beautiful oil on canvas painting by French artist, Anatol Bouchet. Bouchet was an French painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career depicting Paris in all of its glory. Here you see pedestrians, cafes, and cars along the street. People are scattered throughout with breathtaking colors. The details are magnificent as Bouchet captures the architecture of Paris so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. The painting comes displayed in original frame with hanging wire on verso and is signed lower left. Art measures 17 x 20 inches Frame measures 26 x 30 inches Anatol Bouchet was born in Marseille, France in 1930 and he was the son of a well known artist. He was an impressionist painter primarily known for his vivid paintings of Parisian cityscapes and street scenes, as well as landscapes and marine scenes of the French Riviera in the Mediterranean coast of southeastern France. After finishing his elementary education in Marseille, he traveled to Paris to study and quickly became involved in the art societies of Parisian painters and contemporary fellow artists. And influenced by many of his well known artist friends, he quickly developed a special talent creating a unique aesthetic for his artworks and soon he began exhibiting his paintings in and around Paris, which garnered a lot of attention from the public art scene, becoming a very popular painter of the Parisian style.     The painting has some light wear from age and is in overall very good condition besides some signs of light craquelure with two minor inpaint areas on the sky area, otherwise this piece and its frame are in very good condition for the time period.

    A beautiful woman sits at an open window, gazing down at a small bird who has landed nearby in this serene portrait by Charles Levier. Warm orange tones are played off their complements in shades of blue, the artist utilizing several different layers of oils to create a subtle and relaxed view of a spring day near the sea. Beyond the window a small chapel sits on a peninsula, surrounded tranquil blue waters. This work, like many of Levier's, belongs to the French figurative movement of the Glorious Thirty (Les Trente Glorieuses) - the golden period of thirty years after WWII which were a time of great hope and prosperity in France. Inspired by Hollywood cinema, Charles Levier sought harmony in composition and purity of color and form. His said that his creations represented "a light and delicate world, of dark and subtle shades and colors." Levier worked in a somewhat abstracted, cubist style. Additionally he often employed the French technique of "cloisonnism" (after the French for "partition"), a style of post-Impressionist painting with bold and flat forms separated by dark contours, also seen in this work.
