About

Heartland Clouds at Midday, Oil on Canvas, is a dreamy landscape by South Carolina emerging artist, Ann Wood Mezian. Ann Wood Mezian's contemporary oil paintings are inspired by the visual poetry of the seasons, skies and changing light. Her landscapes are rendered in an atmospheric style that evokes a sense of contemplation and renewal. Harmonious colors and softly diffused shapes are achieved through the application of layers of paint over many weeks. She says, "I'm inspired by the power of simplicity. When distilling a landscape down to its essential forms and eliminating unnecessary details, I am focusing instead on qualities of light." Ann was raised in eastern Pennsylvania and in New York City, and was deeply influenced by both the rural vistas of her childhood and Manhattan’s vibrant art museums. She lives in the Lowcountry region near Charleston, South Carolina. As a volunteer for historic preservation and land conservation efforts, the beauty and significance of those places profoundly influences her art. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees with honors from Western Michigan University. Mezian was the recent winner selected by Elisa Contemporary Art in the " Healing Power of Art" competition presented by Manhattan Arts International. According to Lisa Cooper she chose Ann because her paintings take the viewer into a tranquil meditative space. Cooper explained, “There is a calming quality in the landscapes she creates. And an optimism within the floating clouds. The paintings invite the viewer into a space to rest, look, explore and wander. There is a serenity in the muted colors and lush abstracted landscapes. They are inviting, and not completely defined.”
