A peaceful impressionist landscape composed of soft pink and blue pastel tones and energetic brush strokes, this oil painting by artist April Moffatt features the desert landscape of the southwestern United States. The serene and vast landscapes of states like Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico act as inspiration in this almost abstract painting. The sky takes up most of the composition, hanging low with light pink and purple clouds against a blue sky. Below is the suggestion of desert plant life, with sands echoing the same peachy pink as the clouds above, fading to a purple as they recede into the background, perhaps a suggestion of a distant mountain range.

The second piece to an impression of the desert landscape. Loose, expressive brushwork and energetic palette knife marks capture the serene beauty of a desert sky.
About the Artist:
April is heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into her paintings. She uses color fearlessly and is always striving to "capture the light". April wants her paintings to invoke the feelings of her subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
