About the Item
Bright and sunny Santa Cruz, California figurative seascape of a Catamaran launch at Twin Lakes beach by Claire Paye-Gililland (American, 1940-2020), circa 1980. Signed lower left "Claire Paye." to Claire Paye-Gililland on verso and titled "Catamaran Launch - Twin Lakes Beach". Displayed in a rustic oak frame. Image: 15.5"H x 11.5"W.
Paye-Gililland was born in Malden, Massachusetts in 1940 to Belgian parents and later moved to San Jose, where she graduated from high school in 1959. She attended San Jose City College, and later lived in Germany from 1961-1964 where her husband served in the army. Claire began art classes at age 35 at De Anza College and completed an AA degree in Fine Arts in 1975. Paye-Gililland exhibited at the Villages Arts and Crafts Center, San Jose and the Copper Gallerie in Copperopolis, California. She painted seascapes, landscapes, portraits and won awards in Rockport, MA and Los Gatos, CA.
Claire passed away in December of 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.
