Colin Hunter
Highland Stone Bridge, 19th century Landscape

1865

About the Item

Fine work by celebrated 19th century artist, Colin Hunter (1841-1904) ARA, RI, RSW, RE. 'Highland Bridge' shows one of the old stone bridges in the Scottish countryside with horse and carriage/driver on a country lane with a mountain view. Signed in red lower left, and dated indistinctly, interpreted as 1865, though could be 1885. Fresh with good original color in impressionist style, the trees are detailed and finely done. Hunter is known for his great attention to detail in landscape scenes. Here he makes good use of color in the mountains, skies and woodland, with the gate shadow across the path over the bridge. 23" by 29" in the frame, and about 23" by 18" by canvas sight. This is presented in a more recent molded wooden frame, giving the overall work a more contemporary appearance. A good size and ready to hang! Presented in overall good condition. See condition notes.
