An English River Landscape by EDWIN BUTTERY (1839-1908)
Oil on canvas.
Total size including picture and frame: 35cm x 43cm x 6cm
Clearly signed and dated 1869
A Nineteenth Century British landscape artist. Buttery painted the tranquil and pastoral scenes of the countryside of his time, capturing the land and its people working and living together. A beautiful example of English landscape painting showing Buttery's skill and technique and his attention to detail and colour.
He was a professional artist throughout his working life and seemed only to paint landscape scenes in oils. He did not exhibit in London, so he is not listed in any of the major directories, this is a shame as a talented hand can obviously be seen. This is a great entry piece to a future collection.
