About the artist.
Franciszek Kmita was a soldier of the Home Army and a participant in the Warsaw Uprising, and was sent to a labor camp in Jogle.
After the war in the years 1947-53 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw - painting with Jan Sokołowski, Eugeniusz Arct and Michał Bylina, graphics with Andrzej Rudziński. Even as a student, in 1951 he won the second prize at the exhibition of painting accompanying the Youth and Student Festival in Berlin (the painting "Lektura" was purchased for the museum of the Berlin Academy).He took part in the 4th National Art Exhibition in Warsaw in 1954. After graduation, in 1954 he settled permanently in Kazimierz on the Vistula. He had numerous articles, interviews and reports in the press, radio and television. He is a well noted Polish artist and had numerous solo exhibitions in Poland and Europe. He died in the city of Kazimierz Dolny in 2013.
