About the Item

Gabriel Deschamps (1919 - , France) "Port Brenton". Oil on board, framed. The frame is 21” x 24," the board is 15" high by 18" wide. This is a beautiful port scene with blues, greens browns and accents in multiple colors. Great depth of field. The work is in very good condition, some minor frame rubbing outside of the visible image, under the frame. A few small tight lines of paint separation. Signed lower right. Gabriel Deschamps was born in 1919 and studied at the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. From 1939 he was a State Art Professor and a member of the Paris Autumn Salon. He was best known for his evocative landscapes depicting Provence, where he had a house and the spectacular coastline of the South of France. His paintings perfectly capture the fresh, vibrant colours and the intense quality of light in that region. Deschamps’ paintings were sold to many collectors in the United Kingdom in his lifetime and his works are represented in important private collections in Switzerland, Belgium, Brazil, USA and Argentina. He has been exhibited: Paris, Algiers, Oran and Casablanca
