About the artist:
George Van Hook was born in Abington, Pennsylvania in 1954. He attended Oberlin College for a year and then dropped out to travel and paint on an extended cross-country tour. He re-entered college in Humboldt State University, where he graduated with a B.A. in Art in 1977. He established a strong reputation as an emerging young West Coast artist from 1976 to 1984, winning during this period over a dozen awards and prizes in California and Oregon.
In 1985, he moved back to the eastern part of the country. Van Hook's still life exhibit extraordinary vibrant colors kept in a tense but stable balance.
His landscapes are immediate, less formalized, expressions of the visual and emotional world he experiences and transmits to us.
Van Hook has been represented by galleries in Massachusetts, Maine, California, New Jersey, Washington, and New York; and has been exhibited widely in this country as well as two exhibitions in France.
