Henri Miloch
Ecole de Paris Mid 20th Century City Architectural Winter Scene

1940's

About the Item

Paris: City Winter Scene by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) watercolour and gouache painting with charcoal on artist's paper, unframed Sheet: 9.75 x 13.5 inches Intriguing painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It depicts a winter scene in Paris of a residential district, with figures approaching through an archway. Good neutral tones to fit easily in any display environment. This one is unsigned. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. This one is undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: no tears. The corners have small pinholes where the artist attached it to a board whilst working on the painting. The right hand edge is uneven (see photographs) but both this and the corner pinholes would not be seen once this has been matted and framed. Other than that this painting is in very good, clean order. Colour is good, strong, and clear.
