About

Judy Reynolds North Sky, Hudson River, 2019 En plein air landscape oil painting on canvas in black frame of a yellow-orange winter sunset reflecting on river Oil on canvas, signed verso 36 x 48 inches unframed, 38 x 50 inches framed This oil on canvas landscape painting was painted en plein air by Hudson Valley based artist, Judy Reynolds. The composition features a peaceful sunset behind the Catskill Mountain range in the Hudson Valley, located in upstate New York. With a palette of golden yellow, blue, and green and rosy grays, the artist transports the viewer to a place that is calm, quiet and truly picturesque. The scene appears to be during sunset, as the warm yellow sunlight reflects off the snow covered mountaintops and still water. The brushwork is smooth as there is little texture built upon the canvas. The painting is signed by the artist on the reverse. Artist Statement: Primarily self-taught, I’ve created landscapes and still-life paintings in either oil or pastel medium for over 30 years. As a native of the Hudson Valley, most of my work is centered upon the Hudson River and surrounding mountains, fields, and marshes, but I’m also inspired by the dreamy marshlands in Maine. My favorite seasons to capture on canvas are late fall and early spring filled with sunsets, storm endings and foggy marshes, rich with the changing colors of the seasons.
