About the Item
Antonio Puri's "Tantric View" is an intimately-scaled minimalism diptych (two paneled) sculptural painting built from tiny beads adhered to the canvas in a range of red hues, creating deep texture. This piece is from the "Tantra" series, a meditative, spiritual group of works that draw on the artist's Buddhist practices he learned as a child growing up near Buddhist monks in India. Puri's current exhibition, "Tantric Explosion" is on view in Bogota, Colombia, where the artist currently lives and works. The two panels can be hung directly next to each other, or with a few inches of space separating them. They are signed, titled, and dated on the back. Includes all hanging hardware and ready to install. There is no need for additional framing.
"I am interested in comparing connections between my eastern roots and my western experiences. I embrace the possibility that we can exist in a world free from labels." - Antonio Puri
Puri was born in Chandigarh, Punjab, India and raised in the Himalayas around Buddhist monks before studying at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, Coe College, and the University of Iowa. He established his studio in Philadelphia where he practiced for many years before relocating to Bogotá, Colombia. Puri’s range of geographical and cultural experiences are embedded in his work, where he commonly explores the relationships between his eastern and western cultural connections.
Puri has exhibited his work all over the world, including at the Museo de Arte del Tolima in Colombia; Sundaram Tagore Gallery Singapore; Government Museum and Art Gallery Chandigarh, India; Art Depot, Austria; La Cometa Gallery, Bogota; Museo Casa Conde Rul, Mexico; The Guild, NY; Nu Art Gallery in Santa Fe; Twelve Gates, Philadelphia; Philadelphia Art Alliance; Noyes Museum, NJ; Essl Museum, Austria; Hammond Museum, NY; Queens Museum, NY; Sundaram Tagore Gallery, NY; Gallery Espace, New Delhi; Edsviks Konsthall, Stockholm; MOP Gallery, Sydney; Musee du Chateau, France; Corcoran Gallery in DC; and Minneapolis Institute of Arts, MN, among others. - Green Tree on Red - contemporary abstract landscape painting w/ plants, glitterBy Henry BermudezLocated in Bryn Mawr, PAThis is a brightly colored mixed media landscape / still life painting in acrylic and reflective glitter on canvas. It depicts an organic, surrealist plant form in the style of Salvador Dali against a glittering red background. IHenry Bermudez is a seasoned Latino contemporary artist born in Venezuela and based in the US. Emerged from the Caribbean tropics, his artistic life has been an unexpected hybrid of ideas informed by an acute sensitivity to the past, stenciled as part of a personal inventory onto different foreign places that throughout his life have become his home and his artistic working territory. "My paintings are steeped in mythical dream imagery within an otherworldliness of carefully constructed creature and plant forms. Further defined by my identity as a Latino, my work combines symbols and myth from ancient pre-Hispanic cultures with the iconography of contemporary art. The result of this autobiographical vision is a blend of cultural diversities that further defines itself through my immersion in societies other than the one I was born into. Through my exposure to religious and social syncretism, my visual itinerary became charged with powerful influences which provided a unique vision of the African Diaspora in the Americas, its symbolism, and iconography." - Henry Bermudez Bermudez’s journey of unique geographical, artistic and human observation has taken him from educational experiences in small isolated communities in the Caribbean up to representing Venezuela in the Venice Biennial. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PA); Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY); Modern Art Museum of Mexico (Mexico City); Irish Museum of Modern Art (Dublin); Venezuela National Gallery (Caracas); Museum of Contemporary Art (Maracay, Merida, Maracaibo, Caracas); Modern Art Museum of Costa Rica; Museum of Art a Ralli @Punta Del Este Uruguay; and many private collections across the globe. Since his arrival in the USA in 2003, Bermudez has been commissioned by the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia on several major projects. In 2011, he was one of a handful of artists chosen to work with the Philagrafika print collaborative founded by artistic director and curator Jose Roca. In 2012 Mr. Bermudez received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He was elected to present an installation at The Philadelphia International Airport Art...Category

It is signed on the back. Edges are neatly finished and painted black, so there is no need for additional framing. Every purchase comes with a free, hardcover copy of the beautiful illustrated new book, "Joseph McAleer: Sixty Years." "Joe McAleer's paintings engage us as participants in a complex perceptual game. Comprised of contrasting patterns of color, texture, and form, which fill the canvas from edge to edge, his restless abstractions elude a fleeting encounter. Rather, they absorb our attention with rhythmic structures and visual anomalies designed to stimulate and perplex our senses. McAleer's kaleidoscopic abstractions have their basis in the humble Modernist's grid,......" - Joe Houston, Author "Optic Nerve, Perceptual Art of the 1960s"; Curator, Hallmark Art Collection.
