Marc Klionsky (1927 - ): A Russian born artist who spent almost 50 years in the Soviet Union. He attended the Art School for Gifted Children and the Kazan Art School, before graduating from the Academy of Fine Art, where his final piece was reproduced in 50,000 copies. In 1974 he fled his native country originally to Rome and finally New York. Klionsky's works have been exhibited across the world: from Russia to Rome, Florence and Berlin to China, The United States and New Zealand. His early works reflect unrest due to Nazi and Anti-Semitism, to his later works which expressed freedom from his escape. A documentary about his art was broadcast in 92 countries, which included his portraits of many esteemed clients: Golda Meir, Elie Wisel, B.B. King and Armand Hammer. Today his works are in the permanent collcections of many of the finest institutions, including the National Portrait Gallery, the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lausanne, where they are enjoyed by critics and collectors alike.
