Big Sur Coastal Cliffs - California Plein Aire Landscape in Acrylic on Canvas Dramatic Pacific Ocean seascape by California Plein Aire artist Nick White (American, 1943-2009). Waves move in from the left side of the compositions to the right, crashing on rocky cliffs. The lower parts of the cliffs are jagged, but the tops are covered with dense trees and vegetation. In the distance, the coastline continues along the horizon. Artist's name and information written on verso. Unsigned, but was acquired from the artist's estate with a collection of his work. Canvas size: 16"H x 12"W Nick White (American, 1943-2009) began painting in the early 1970s with some early success Later in life, White was a member (and board member) of the Los Gatos Art Association. He founded the Plein Air group, which he ran until 2009. He was a dedicated painter, leading many excursions regardless of group size. He preferred to paint in acrylic, as its quick-drying properties allowed him to “work fast and loose in the style of the early California impressionists.” Two of his paintings were selected for the Fiesta de Artes Posters in 2004 and 2005.     Deer at the Purple Mountains - Landscape in Oil on Canvas Dramatic mountain landscape by California artist Ken Lucas (American, 20th Century). Deer are grazing in the grasslands at the base of a mountain range. The mountains are rich shades of tan, red-brown, and purple. In the distance, the mountains have a blue cast. The sky above is light blue with wispy clouds in white, yellow, orange, and magenta. Numbered in the lower left corner ("49") The artist signed and gave each painting a number in order of execution, we don't see the signature on the front side on this one. Dated on verso ("#49, Nov., 93") From a collection of the artist's works. Unframed. Canvas size: 30"H x 36"W Ken Lucas was a school teacher and amateur painter from Monterey, California. He was primarily self-taught but became proficient as an artist and left a legacy of excellent paintings. He was a friend of and painted with Richard Lofton, Carmel Artist.
