About the Item
Patrice Marchal is a self-taught painter born in Abidjan, Africa. He spent his childhood in Morocco and was used to seeing wide open spaces, big blue skies and horizons. He brings this look to France and transposes it to other landscapes, in the tradition of the artists of the Barbizon school. He lived in Barbizon for a long time and is known as the "painter of poppies".
"Chanson d'été" (Summer Song) is a piece in the artist's preferred format. This canvas is a dedication to the patience and technique that Patrice Marchal possesses. He shows meticulousness in this accumulation of poppies overhung by a pure and light soothing sky. Here, we feel the serenity and the love for nature that the artist likes to share with us.
Each work is a personal, universal and timeless invitation. Each detail is drawn from his memory, remembering his countless walks in nature. He is an artist who paints indoors without a model, just the one of his memory. This is the beauty of his work, entirely devoted to magnify these spaces that we often forget.
In a painting, Patrice Marchal translates past, present and future life. This unchanging life that returns and is reborn from its ashes, this eternal paradise that we call "EARTH".

- Les bords de l’Allier, à Pont-du-Château, fin d’après-midi d’étéLocated in Barbizon, FRIn parallel to his studies of architecture, Lebourg takes courses at the school of the Beaux-Arts of Rouen. After a stay of several years in Alger, where he taught drawing, he returned to France and exhibited in the salon from 1878 and then regularly until 1914. He participated in the Impressionists' exhibition in 1879 and became a member of the National Society of Fine Arts in 1894. He was promoted to Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1903 and then to the rank of Officer in 1924. Winter landscapes and waterfront sites had the preference of the artist, for whom values prevail over tones. Lebourg did not divide the tone but fragmented the key to make the color vibrate. In 1916 a major exhibition will be devoted to his work with more than 200 painted works exposed. Museums : Alger – Agen – Aix les Bains...Category
