About the Item
Billowing lavender and grey clouds in a soft turquoise sky rise above a treed plain in this romantic landscape by acclaimed Canadian painter Peter Hoffer. The artist's skilled rendering reminiscent of the works of Claude Lorraine or John Constable is covered with layers of varnish, a practice of the 18th and 19th Parisien Salons. The edges of the work are left raw.
Peter Hoffer (b. 1965, Brantford, ON) holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin.
Hoffer's paintings can evoke nostalgia for romantic forms and periods. In his new work, he explores fashion and still life using trompe l'oeil imagery and vintage collage. These works are housed in plexiglass boxes. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
