About the Item
An iconic young cedar is set against the epic backdrop of a sweeping landscape with distant hills. Peter Hoffer's paintings evoke nostalgia for classical, romantic forms and periods. Here he seems to look to the expansive and romantic sublime in the 18th century paintings of John Constable.
Peter Hoffer (b. 1965, Brantford, ON) holds an MFA. from Concordia University and degrees from the University of Guelph and OCAD University. He has lived and worked in Toronto, New York City, Paris, Montreal and Berlin.
Hoffer's paintings can evoke nostalgia for romantic forms and periods. In his new work, he explores fashion and still life using trompe l'oeil imagery and vintage collage. These works are housed in plexiglass boxes. Hoffer has exhibited widely at art fairs in Basel, Toronto, New York, Stockholm, London, Milan, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. His paintings are held in many private, corporate and public collections including the Musée des Beaux Arts, the Musée du Quèbec and the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
