Jim Wise
"Charlie's House" - large scale shell painting - beach - Georgia O'Keeffe

2020

About the Item

"Charlie's House" is a large scale oil painting featuring hues of orange, tan, pink and yellow. Jim Wise is inspired by the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, Rene Magritte, James Rosenquist, Ed Ruscha and 17th century Dutch still life paintings. Jim Wise’s large-scale and meticulous paintings present familiar items in unexpected and often striking ways, sparking a viewing experience that is at once familiar and mysterious. Jim grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, attended the North Carolina Governor’s School in art, and graduated from the Design College at North Carolina State University. After a long career as a graphic designer, producing award-winning design work for major corporations and institutions throughout the country, Jim has finally –and happily – turned to painting full time. He and his wife Hollis divide their time between homes in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood and Asheville, NC. Jim is proud to be a docent at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
