About the Item

Scottish Highland Seascape Shoreline Impasto Painting of An Teallach, Gruinard Bay, Wester Ross by Royal Society Artist, Sheila Macleod Robertson RSMA, SWA. Presented in a vintage wooden frame with natural canvas insert. Art measures 16 x 12 inches Frame measures 22 x 18 inches This painting is a landscape scene depicting a coastal area with a bay and distant mountains. The style is impressionistic, characterized by bold and expressive brush strokes. The sky is mostly overcast with some patches of blue, and there are variations in cloud formations, giving a sense of depth and movement. The water in the bay is a calm blue, reflecting the sky, and a small sailboat with a red sail can be seen in the distance, adding a focal point and contrast. The shoreline curves gently around the bay, transitioning from sandy beaches to rocky outcrops. In the foreground, the land is green and rugged, with patches of brown and dark green indicating vegetation and rock formations. A winding road leads the viewer's eye from the foreground into the distance, where it disappears into the mountainous landscape. The Location: An Teallach, Gruinard Bay, Wester Ross Considered one of Britain’s most visually impressive mountains, An Teallach sits just west of the Dundonnell Forest in Wester Ross. Created over thousands of years in Torridonian sandstone (very common to the region), the range is best characterised for its sharp, rocky exterior that makes it slightly more challenging to climb. The munro takes its name from the Old Gaelic meaning ‘the anvil’, so named for its distinctive cone shape.
