Sian McGill
Cornish Coast - Contemporary Rural Landscape: Framed Acrylic Painting

2022

About the Item

FRAMED SIZE - 44cm x 54cm Much of Sian's inspiration comes directly from the places where she loves to spend time; outdoors enjoying the coastline and mountains of Wales and South East England. The paintings are a response to the landscape, an attempt to capture something of the experience and the energy of a place- how it feels to be there on that day. An expressive and intuitive painter, she works mostly with a palette knife, but also paints with brushes , or fingers or whatever else comes to hand to get the desired effect. She enjoys experimenting with mark-making, colour and texture to create a variety of effects- this often leads to a degree of unpredictability, allowing the paintings to emerge almost by themselves.

  • Double Overtime Shift, Urban Industrial Landscape, Contemporary Realist Painting
    By Art Chartow
    Located in Chicago, IL
The factories of Art Chartow's "Double Overtime Shift" represent strength, industrial might, and the ability to vanquish nature. This place is strange, sinister and forbidding yet at the same time beautiful and fragile. The artist's uses paint to express the power of light at this particular time of day. The winter sun has cast it's light onto the cold metal silos to bring some hope of warmth - as seen on the melting snow covered road. This contemporary realist painting is framed in a simple black wooden frame measuring 23.25h x 45.25w inches. • “Maidstone Club, East Hampton”
    Located in Southampton, NY
Acrylic paint on canvas laid down on board of the iconic 9th hole of the Maidstone Golf Club in East Hampton, New York. The view is from the 9th tee box looking east to the green and the 13th green beyond. The artist is Peter Schnore and is signed lower left and titled and signed verso as well. Condition is excellent. Circa 1980. The artwork is framed in a heavy thin steel frame. Overall measurements are 9.25 by 16 inches. Provenance: A Long Island estate. Biography: Peter D. Schnore (American, born 1939 Peter D. Schnore, a Latvian born artist and art critic came to America in 1949 at the age of ten. Since the 1960s, when he was a pioneering modernist, his area of concentration has been innovative traditional realism. Peter studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he received the prestigious Cresson European three months travel and study prize, helped prepare him for becoming the much praised painter of landscapes, still lifes, and portraits that he is today. His 2011 awards include The First Prize for Painting at The State of the Art 44th Annual Exhibition of Pennsylvania artists at the State Museum in Harrisburg. At the Salmagundi Club in New York, he received the Judy and Elias Newman memorial award from the National Society of Painters in casein and acrylic. At America’s oldest ongoing juried exhibition, The Philadelphia Sketch Club’s Small Oils show, where in the past Schnore has received three Henry Tait best of show medals, he was awarded another First Prize. In 1990, at the sadly now defunct annual juried exhibition of The National Academy of Design, Schnore was awarded what can be considered the very highest landscape painting award in the nation, The First Benjamin Altman Prize for Landscape. In 2009, at the prestigious Allied Artists of America juried exhibition he was again awarded the top landscape prize, The Alden Bryan...
