About the Item

SPANISH SCHOOL, 19th CENTURY ARTIST UNKNOWN oil on canvas 10-1/2 x 7-5/8 inches (26.5 x 19.3 cm.) framed: 15-1/2 x 12-1/2 inches (39 x 31.5 cm.) PROVENANCE Spanish Collector, Madrid 19th Century Spanish School. Sandpipers at work and rest. Small format of Goyesco style in its most romantic aspect, idealizing the working woman, pestle washers and turning them into heroines of her time. With a quick and loose brushstroke, but with impeccable execution, the pure whites and blues of the sky merge giving light and profindity to the work. The dresses of the pestles in classic colors, green, blue and red give the note of color to the work.
