About

Born in Middletown, Connecticut in 1875, landscape and marine painter Whitney Hubbard studied at Wesleyan University, the Art Students League and under Frank Vincent DuMond. Hubbard is considered to have been a major influence in the Peconic Bay Impressionists including Franklin Bennett, Joseph Beckwith Hartranft, Emily Barto, Rachel Beebe and George Hallock. Hubbard made his debut in Greenport in 1913 and exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, among others. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Long Island Museum of American Art and at the Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport, New York.
