Will Ayres
3 Seconds of Lockdown

2021

About the Item

This new stunning seascape painting is presented by the studio of award winning British artist Will Ayres is a direct response to the lockdown experience. The large scale seascapes explore our place and time, where time itself seemed to stand still and had no real importance beyond our day to day isolation. Transitions, memory and repetition all played a part and made us question our own importance and existence in relation to our natural surroundings. The concept for the paintings started at the same time everyday with a 30 minute walk along the coast. Each day, the sea, the light and the power of nature had changed, with no hold, no isolations - a freedom which Will continues to admire and respects everyday. Within these extraordinary paintings, Will not only wanted to hold time, but to show the changes in the continuous repetition and transitions. He made short films everyday and made these paintings 3 seconds apart in time. Will Ayres is an internationally renowned artist who has a huge following and collected in some notable private homes, such as Joel Cadbury and Pierre Legrange. His work finds itself in new collectors homes pretty soon after they leave the easel, so it is an absolute privilege to be able to feature his exquisite work for sale here on the 1stdibs platform
