About the Item
Yves Brayer was born in Versailles but spent most of his childhood in Bourges. ‘Champs Vert’ is an amazing example of his French landscape paintings. The naïve colour palette, heavy defined brush strokes, rugged landscapes and trees are what makes this piece so recognisable.
In 1927 Brayer left Paris for Spain with the aid of a state grant to enable him to study the works of the Spanish Masters in the Prado. Brayer continued to paint in occupied Paris throughout the Second World War, and also designed the costumes and sets for a ballet performed at the Opera de Paris in 1942.

- 'Trouville Sur Mer' French Landscape beach scene with figures, sea and beach hutBy Marcel DyfLocated in Shrewsbury, Shropshire'Trouville Sur Mer' is a gloriously warm painting of late summer in Trouville, France. To watch Dyf paint was entrancing. Even as an old man, he would stand rather than sit before the easel, working with extraordinary vigour and intense concentration. His palette was a rainbow of fresh colours and his hand continually darted back and forth from the canvas. At intervals he would step back or consider briefly another picture before returning to the easel, his eye refreshed. Usually he sketched straight onto the canvas, which he set up on his travelling easel...Category
