Oliver Chaffee was a highly influential painter who worked during the first half of the twentieth century. His bold, often experimental work presaged the art world’s journey from figurative work to modernism and abstraction. Chaffee was among the most instrumental figures in establishing Provincetown, Massachusetts, as one of the country’s most influential art colonies.
