Initialed lower left 'C.O.M.' for Carl Otto Müller i(German, 1901-1970), and dated '69'. Additionally dated, verso, '1969' and titled, 'Myriam, Das Rote Handtusch'.
Displayed in a period, water-gilded frame with linen liner. Size including frame: 12 x 14.5 inches
A lyrical oil study of a young woman in an upholstered and carpeted interior, shown drying herself with a red hand-towel.
Carl Otto Müller first studied at the Kunstgewerbschule in Munich under Caspar and, subsequently, at the Dortmund Kunstakademie. He later furthered his studies in Paris and Italy and was the subject of many solo-exhibitions including at the Koll-Austellung, (1947), the Stuttgart Kunstkabinett (1952), the Eichstadt Gewerbehalle and Munich’s Stadtgalerie (1955). Over the course of a long and successful career, Müller was the recipient of numerous medals and prizes and juried awards. He is particularly known for his delicate and psychologically-penetrating studies of women painted in a soft, post-Impressionist style reminiscent of Bonnard’s Intimism. We are pleased to offer this dynamic figural study from the artist's mature period.
