Artist: Anthony Ackrill ( American 1958- ) Title: Baby Medium: Oil on Sterling Silver Salver Year of Work: 2014 Signed: Engraved on Back Dimensions: 9.38" x 6.75" Unframed Condition: Painting is New, Silver Platter is Antique "Baby" is a charming and delightful painting created by artist Anthony Ackrill. This piece was created while a sweet child rested upon his mother and Anthony could paint his feet as they were still. The pair of feet are so live like and precious it dares the view to reach out and grab them. One of the most interesting aspects of this piece is what the suspended feet are painted on. Anthony chose to paint on an antique silver salver which fits the child's small anatomy wonderfully. On the back of the piece engraved is the signature "Anthony Ackrill" along with a hanger for display. Artist Bio Anthony Ackrill was born in Alaska in 1958, but spent most of his childhood in Florida and Ohio. Mr. Ackrill began to study drawing and painting on his own accord at a young age. After winning awards in several local and regional art contests, as well as selling some of his paintings, he sought a more formal education to help develop his talent. Anthony Ackrill found an excellent atelier-styled school for artists in Florence, Italy and enrolled in late 1995, at the age of 37. In his second year in Florence, Mr. Ackrill began teaching anatomy to his fellow students, and then also taught drawing and painting. After five years of painting and teaching in Florence Italy, he returned to Florida, where he now has his own studio. Anthony has sold paintings internationally and has been represented in some of the largest art shows in the world including Art Basel and Palm Beach Art Show. Dr. Gregory Hedberg, curator of contemporary art at Hirschel & Adler Galleries in New York, stated "Anthony Ackrill is the only painter I know who combines an amazing ability when it comes to traditional technical skills with a very modern sense of subject matter. Painting a human navel on a silver platter in a realistic manner would appeal to both Courbet and Duchamp. Ackrill's multi-figural composition exhibit Old Master technical skills yet again there is a very modern sensibility. The figures all have a sense of being here and now even though they are rendered in a manner that would delight Antonio Correggio.
