About

The combination of oil, acrylic, photography, archival inks, steel grid and wood on canvas give this mixed media painting the energy, depth and excitement that Ceravolo's paintings are known for. At the base of this canvas is Ceravolo's stylized vintage photograph of New York model Tracey S..

Ceravolo's Large scale paintings have received international acclaim for more four decades. His art, came to popular attention in the 1970's, when he was commissioned to create six large scale oil on canvas portraits for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City of Frank Zappa, Jackson Browne, Linda Rondstadt, Neil Young and Hall and Oats.. In addition to these, his paintings are in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few.

On this particular work, Ceravolo cuts out the wood to the shape he desires and then paints the cut outs and attaches them to the art several inches in front of the canvas surface using wooded rods, those painted cut out shapes are a few inches in front of a steel grid which he places 1 inch in front of the surface of the painting. These cut out painted shapes along with the steel grid cast shadows on the woman's face and create the depth and emotion that Ceravolo's work is known for. It's as if his model is peering out from behind this steel grid surrounded by the excitement of brush strokes and texture. Ceravolo then paints shadows under the spontaneous brush strokes to give the illusion of depth to those brush strokes. The canvas measures 56x45x5
