Greg Gossel "Prince 2" Pop Art Musician Music Collage Purple Black Yellow White Main Colors: Purple Black Yellow White Prince 2, was featured in Greg Gossel's January 2020 show "Face the Music" at Rubine Red Gallery in Palm Springs, California. A collage of vintage tabloids and discarded comic book pages act as a base for the brightly colored layers of hand paint, aerosol and spray paint, acrylic and silkscreen ink -- creating an iconic portrait that is instantly recognizable, while simultaneously offering an intricate depth for those who delve below the surface. The artwork is not framed, but has its wooden stretcher edges completely wrapped in artwork/canvas. No frame is needed. Can be shipped un-stretched and rolled. “Face the Music” was a new solo exhibition by Wisconsin-based artist Greg Gossel, featuring over 100 new original works on canvas and vintage LPs. The artist explored themes of creation, inspiration and loss through a series of vibrant pop portraits featuring an eclectic selection of musicians who are no longer with us. Aesthetically, Gossel continues to push his signature mixed-media approach with brightly colored large-scale works on canvas, and delves into new territory with an expansive series on repurposed vinyl records. Greg Gossel was born in 1982 in western Wisconsin. With a background in design, his work is an expressive interplay of many diverse words, images, and gestures. Gossel’s multi-layered work illustrates a visual history of change and process that simultaneously features and condemns popular culture. His work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. and abroad, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Copenhagen and Japan. His commercial clients include Chivas Regal, KFC, Levi’s, American Express, Hyundai, Burton Snowboards, and Interscope Records; and has been published widely, including The San Francisco Chronicle and Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine. Greg currently resides in Trimbelle, Wisconsin.
