About
John Haynes Williams R.B.S.A, born in Worcester 1836, was a natural painter from England specialising in genre paintings. He developed most of his artistic activity in and around London, Birmingham and Andalusia. This particular work coming from the quintessentially english town of Henley On Thames, 40 miles west of London. He was very highly regarded in his day, and is still represented in the Tate, and Victoria And Albert Galleries, London.
This painting is a great example of Williams displaying his skill in depicting both flora and fauna in fine detail whilst including the gentle form of one of his favoured models gathering roses.
