Canvas size: 17.5 x 14.75 inches
This exquisite nude painting is absolutely beautiful. The pale green backdrop to the painting has faint coral pink flecks in it adding a real air of 30's opulence; the colour palette used in this painting is truly lovely. There is a small collection of similar portraits by this French artist.
This is a superb mix of post-impressionism combined with a Fauvist palette also. Influence showing to the painting from Henri Matisse, so the artist likely inspired by him. Matisse helped to define and influence radical contemporary art in the 20th century. Although he was initially labelled a Fauve (wild beast), by the 1920s he was being hailed as an upholder of the classical tradition in French painting. His mastery of the expressive language of colour and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over a half-century, won him recognition as a leading figure in modern art.

The canvas is in good condition, and the canvas recently restretched as was previously stored rolled up.
