About the Item

"Farmer" Portrait Oil Painting 16" x 12" inch by Shaaban Zaki circa 1930 Signed. Shaaban Zaki came from a lower-middle-class family who was mostly government employees, but he was distinguished from them by being involved in the art and culture circles. He could not afford to study in art schools, so he studied at an art institute in Chicago by correspondence. A self-taught and self-made man, he became involved in the art scene and was able to distinguish himself during the early ’20s and ’40s among his colleagues. He contributed to the cultural life by writing articles and essays on the early education of art in primary schools. S. Zaki was able to leave for us a wide collection portraying the landscapes of Egypt whether it be Upper Egypt with its culture and monuments or Lower Egypt with its traditions. He was preoccupied with the different aspects beginning from the ordinary workmen to the great dignitaries of that time

"Strelka. Beginning" Oil Painting 25.5" x 29.5" inch by Andrey Remnev ARTIST BIO: "My birth place is Yakhroma town, in the vicinity of Moscow. It is situated on high hills, from where broad Bruegelian vistas are open. The uneven terrain with significant differences of high and low; a canal between the Moskva river and the Volga; small rivers, woods and villages; a nearby ancient town of Dmitrov, which is equal to Moscow in age; ships cruising the canal and trains outdistancing them – all this I saw from my window since my early years. It was a view that embraced all the diversity of the world. This is why I can say that the impressions of my childhood and youth – beautiful nature and remarkable people – are the most important ones. In the museum of Moscow's St. Andronic Monastery I copied the best examples of the old Russian painting...
