Créqule
Cubist Still life, Fish Supper, Acrylic and Oil on board, Modern Style, Signed

About the Item

Cubist still life, acrylic and oil on board, by French artist Créqule. Signed bottom right. The painting is presented in a gilt wood frame, under glass. A bold exploration of form and colour. This artwork transforms a traditional still life into a rhythmic composition. The palette is daring. Deep purples clash with vibrant turquoise and soft pinks. A stylized fish dominates the centre. Its scales are rendered as organic, swirling shapes. The perspective is flattened. This approach evokes the spirit of modern cubism. Geometric planes intersect with fluid lines. A slender bottle and a delicate glass stand in the background. They provide a vertical balance to the horizontal weight of the fish. Every element is outlined with firm, dark strokes. These contours define the space with precision. The background shifts between a muted ochre and a rich magenta. This contrast enhances the luminosity of the foreground objects. The mood is poised and intellectual. It invites the viewer to reconsider the geometry of ordinary objects. The brushwork remains visible. This adds a tactile quality to the surface. The composition settles into a balanced harmony of contrasting tones and overlapping shapes. Créqule is a Provencal artist currently working in Saint Maxime on the Côte d'Azur just across the bay from St. Tropez.
