Darius Yektai
White Wild Flowers

2020

About the Item

Framed dimensions are 28 x 24 x 4 inches. Oil, acrylic, and resin on linen. Artist Bio Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own. Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

  • Nasturtium, Diptych
    By Darius Yektai
    Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Nasturtium, Diptych" is an abstract diptych painting of two potted plants. On the lefthand canvas the background is painted a thin hookers green and resin was poured over the top. The potted flower is painted over the resin, sitting on a white stippled table with a thick yellow edge. Yellow stipples are painted around the plant. The righthand painting has intentionally exposed canvas soft smudges of green paint through the middle of the canvas and navy up in the upper lefthand corner, at the middle of the composition. A heavy impasto flower...

  • Fiber painting: 'The City of Books'
    Located in New York, NY
The City of Books shows a map of an imaginary city made up by words: 140 quotations, taken from 40 different books and chosen following the criterion of analogy, give rise to 12 tales that compose the roads of the city. The artwork sees literature cross over into art, exit from books, and is an homage to the transformation process that leads the reader to become author, mixing roles; reading become writing, creating an access between two actions intimately connected. Clarice Lispector, Roberto Bolaño, David Foster Wallace, Jorge Luis Borges...
