Jill Pottle
"Copper Pot", contemporary, still life, retro, high chroma, oil painting

2018

About the Item

Jill Pottle’s still life titled “Copper Pot” is part of a series of three and it can be sold with or without its partners, “Flower Pot” and “Hostess.” In this 16 x 20 x 1.5 inch oil painting on stretched canvas with an oil base coat, her delight in painting this highly reflective retro object is evident, and her energetic application of paint, use of stripes, patterns and high chroma invite your eye to move around the canvas. Pottle paints depictions of ordinary household objects that may be found in our attics. The canvas edge is one and half inches wide and painted gray, ready to hang by itself or with its two partners. Known for her complicated and engaging still life and loose plein air work, Jill Pottle is a New Realist painter from Worcester County. Her aim is to capture movement and emotional qualities in her canvases. In her still life paintings, she most often uses retro or well-worn ordinary objects that focus attention on life in our contemporary world. In her landscapes, she freezes a moment in time to exemplify the power of the life force in nature. Rich brush work and high chroma characterize her fluid painterly style in both areas of subject matter. The play of light on different surfaces and the layering of paint create depth and resonance in her work. Pottle is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
