JOHANN BERTHELSEN (1883 - 1972): A prolific painter, Berthelsen exhibited his work at numerous commercial galleries in New York, among them the Gattredam Gallery, the Barbizon-Plaza Galleries, the Allan Rich Gallery, and the Jean Bohne Gallery. His work was also shown in exhibitions in Chicago and Indianapolis, where he was the recipient of many awards and prizes. The artist's professional affiliations included Allied Artists of America, the Hoosier Salon and the Salmagundi Club. Berthelsen's work is represented in numerous public collections, including the Hickory Museum, Hickory, North Carolina; Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis; Indiana University, The Daily Family Memorial Collection of Paintings, Bloomington, Indiana; the Museum of Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas; the Sembrich Memorial, Lake George, new York; Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Terre Haute, Indiana; Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
