About the Item
This beautiful still life is by the Montana/Idaho artist Maia Leisz. Leisz studied art extensively in the south of France and the influence of that region is evident in this impressionistic work. The patterned wallpaper and blue jar harken back to the Impressionists’ love of pattern modeled after Japanese art. The oranges in the foreground are beautifully painted and remind me of Cezanne. The painting measures 11” x 14” (16” x 19” framed.) It is composed of oil on board. It is signed in the lower right, “Maia” and bears a label on the reverse. The frame is a very nice matte gold wooden frame that goes well with the painting. The painting and frame are in good condition.
About the artist:
Maia Leisz studied at the University of California at Santa Cruz, majoring in art with a minor in French. While at USC, she was accepted to an intensive language program in the South of France, and while there was offered a full scholarship to the Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence. She has been a professional painter since, and currently lives in Idaho
