This artwork "Still Life" c.1960 is an oil painting on canvas by American artist Michael Ritter Cannon, b.1913. It is signed at the lower middle by the artist. The canvas size is 16 x 20 inches, framed size is 18.25 x 22,25 inches. Framed in original wooden greyish color frame. It is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
Born in 1913, Michael Ritter Cannon received his artistic training at the University of Utah and at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. Between 1942 and 1960, he was an instructor at the Salt Lake Art Center Art Barn. He was an active member of local arts organizations such as Utah Creative Artists and Associated Utah Artists, where he briefly served as that organization's president.
Michael Cannon's work can be found in the Springville Museum of Art in Springville, Utah and in private collections. From Artists of Utah by Robert S. Olpin, William C. Seifrit and Vern G. Swanson; p. 50: "A teacher, exhibitor and award winning oil painter, Cannon was an active member of the Utah arts community…specializing in restrained still-life subjects for painted works, Cannon exhibits convincing qualities of sharply apprehended light."
