About

Photo-realist oil painting of a red brick building on Madison Street in Manhattan's Lower East Side. oil on wood in artist made dark wood frame 10 x 8 inches This contemporary, realistic oil painting of a New York City building was painted by Richard Britell in 2018. Employing his mastery of the troupe l'oeil technique, Britell paints the classic red brick building in extreme detail assuming a three-dimensional quality with close attention paid to shadow and perspective. Located on Madison Street in New York, this building is a quintessential example of architecture found on the Lower East Side. The bright red brick contrast against the yellow and blue trimmings while fire escapes protrude from the facade, further accentuating the painting's troupe l'oeil qualities. The painting on wood is framed in a custom artist made wood frame with wire on the back for instant hanging. About the artist: Richard Britell, a career painter, studied at Pratt Institute with Philip Pearlstein and Walter Erlebacher. His first show in NYC at Staempfli Gallery was sold out, and reviewed in the New York Times. Britell’s new works revolve around large, dreamy cityscapes tending toward abstraction.
