Oil painting on canvas, depicting Still Life with female figure, Italian school of the 17th century. This splendid composition in Baroque style shows the careful observation of nature by the painter. The various qualities of the fruit are described with a marked naturalism, enhanced by a clear light that highlights the quality of each individual fruit, while the artist's brushwork, confident, decisive and full of temperament, culminates in an exercise in painting. This is how black and white grapes, pomegranates, plums and melons are almost tangible to our eyes, defined in their every detail, even in their imperfections, such as the lucidity of the grapes, the roughness of melons and the drops of dew that fall from the plums. This erudite treatment of light, as well as the chromatic vivacity and the detail of each single fruit in a naturalistic key, are typical traits of Flemish paintings, more particularly of Abraham Brueghel, a Baroque painter and master of the still life genre in Italy, active between Rome and Naples, who almost exclusively painted floral compositions. The most interesting analogies can be found precisely in a work with the same subject by the Flemish painter, located in a private collection (Fototeca Zeri, inv. 161676). This canvas, although depicting the same subject, seems to vary slightly in some small details, such as the bird in the upper left, some fruit lying on the counter in the foreground and the background that appears completely different. The work with coeval frame, presented in a good state of conservation, with light restorations carried out on the fruit and on the face of the female figure, requires a cleaning of the pictorial layer which is slightly dirty.
