Vera Barnett
Bottle and Shell

2015

About the Item

Vera Barnett is best known for creating elements of her composition—by sewing and painting plastic, building objects with cardboard and tape, and assembling found objects—then setting them up in her studio to paint as a still life. In this small painting, Barnett made a cardboard table and appointed it with found objects, all set in front of a piece of fabric draped behind. Vera Barnett paints her still life arrangements in a trompe l’oeil manner so real as to confound the viewer. Barnett says, “I am drawn to art that explores the emotional relationships between people, their environment and circumstances that they find themselves in. I wish to reconstruct these ideas through my own vision, my life and experiences.” Vera Barnett studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and has had two solo exhibitions at Valley House Gallery in Dallas. This painting is oil on linen. The overall frame dimensions are 14 7/8 x 12 7/8 inches.

Peach Lilies (Contemporary Still Life of Vibrant Tiger Lilies, Oil on canvas) by Dan Rupe 22 x 22 inches oil on linen canvas Signed on reverse Artist Dan Rupe paints only from life, his composition ruled by his intuitive sense of formal order. He begins covering his canvas with a deep crimson wash. This ground gives his brilliant pure color , applied with an expressive, direct gesture, an electric charge. No matter how often or how long one looks at a Rupe painting, it is always the present tense. The tone of his palette, the freshness and clarity of primary colors, reflects an optimistic attitude, an intrinsic love of life. In this work, three vibrant peach colored lilies open their blooms amidst bright green grasses. Rupe succeeds at capturing the immediacy of his subjects be it flowers, buildings or people. Read below for an amusing profile written about the artist in 2003: You‘ve likely seen him on the streets of Hudson, seated before his canvas in a multi-colored paint daubed t-shirt and shorts, his straw hat providing shade for all but his tanned forearms and knees. His splattered Technicolor Walkman tape player...

The Language of Flowers and Silent Things — in four parts with luminous oil on linen. Each panel is 25 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches. Hanging the four paintings in a row with 1 inch between each canvas, the overall dimension is 25 1/2 x 81 inches. Drama and depth at play in this sophisticated painting in aubergine and plum on natural raw Belgian linen. Thin layers of oil paint, create a shimmering and provocative work that shimmers and changes with the light of day and differing seasons. French American Frédéric Choisel, is inspired by the cities and countrysides of France, New York, and California's Bay Area. Like Gerhard Richter, with a background in hyperrealism and shift into abstraction, Choisel is taking us — the viewers of his work — along with him on a visceral journey. Beautiful, rich, highest quality materials used throughout. Artist signed, titled and dated verso. Condition excellent. The four paintings can hang in a quad as pictured or four in a row...
