About the Item
A unique composite of 4 gelatin silver prints, with a total image size of 4.25 x 4.25 inches, on a 10 x 10 inch mount. Custom framing (as shown in Image #2) is available for an additional $450.
In his 1974 series WHIMSY, Ray K. Metzker juxtaposed four small out-of-focus views of leaves into abstract diamond-shaped collages which read like Rorschach tests, completely open to each viewer’s interpretation. Although each was intended to be produced in limited editions, none of the editions were ever completed. This "Whimsy" is numbered 1/15, but it was the only one ever produced - a unique work.
Ray K. Metzker was a modern master who was exhibited and collected globally for over 50 years. His latest career retrospective was shown at the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle.
