About the Item
This one-of-a-kind handmade darkroom print (along with 4 others that I'll be adding momentarily) marks the very beginning of yet a new 11x14 sub-series of "Fire & Ice." For now, I'm calling this new sub-series, "The Winds of Change," but that is a working title that actually just came to me tonight (1/25/23).
Made with flowers, sand, ice, and glitter infused sand. This photograph was made without the use of a camera; it was basically made with my bare hands, printed on black and white enlarging paper, and exposed with a flashing led light source (multiple times). I then processed it in "traditional" darkroom chemistry. (This process cannot be duplicated. Once an image sells, it's gone. I don't offer digital versions of any of my handmade prints.)
I began making photograms with alternate light sources in June 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. This has since become something I specialize in (teach) and have also received several awards for. "Fire & Ice" was my 4th alt process (unique silver gelatin) series since then, as well as my only 16x20 photogram series - and commenced in early 2022.
Each print of this ongoing alternate process landscape series is literally made with fire and/or ice in some capacity (sometimes both!), as well as other materials. [The Many Rings of Saturn was the first 11x14 sub-series of this work, and much of that is also available via my store.]
[I was extremely fortunate that my self-designed processes not only resulted in beautiful one-of-a-kind prints that met my standards - from the get-go, but also my current source of income. However, things are not yet stable with in-person clients and private students, so your purchase would not only help get some amazing art on your walls, but would also go towards helping me continue to make artwork while things are still in flux.]
