About the Item
Inspired by filmmaking, American counter-culture, and the aesthetics of the New Wave, Plossu started his photographic career in the 1960s, crafting a beautiful aesthetic that conveys the intimacy of observing the world through the romance and solitude of travel. The Fresson color pigment print, of which this artwork is one of, is inherited from the monochrome carbon "satin paper" process perfected at the end of the nineteenth century by Théodore-Henri Fresson. It was developed by his son Pierre from 1951 and finalised in 1959. It is still one of the techniques offered by the family run Atelier Fresson in Savigny-sur-Orge, France. Plossu is one of the few photographers who has been trained in the Fresson print process.
