'I have often found a companion in the camera, a partner that allows me a way to communicate how I see things in my mind. The element of chance, the imperfections, the saturated colors, all give each unique Polaroid a surreal, dreamy quality that I only experience otherwise in my dreams.’
Coming from a background as a model and actress, getting behind the camera feels like a natural step in the creative process for Caitlin Fowler. She has owned a Polaroid 600 camera since childhood, and has always been fascinated by the idea of instantly having a photo of a moment just captured. The photos progressed from portraits of dolls, to friends at birthday parties in her teens years, to shots of her taken by boyfriends- always under her direction and never to her satisfaction. Then, she appeared as a model working with Stefanie Schneider in ‘Instant Dreams’, and she was inspired to pick up the camera herself. Behind the camera, she found a satisfying way to express what she sees. ’Exploration’ is a series of photographs taken during her travels, often during moments of solace. ‘Initiation’ is the next iteration of her photographic journey- the muse becoming the creator - the exercise of bringing out the
beauty she sees in women and not being afraid to capture it in others.
