Roberta Fineberg
Double Helix, Swimmer, Contemporary Art Photography, Framed

2021

About the Item

Double Helix, 2021 by Roberta Fineberg is influenced by abstract painting and explores the concept of seeing infinite possibilities. Appealing to a desire to alternate between the concrete and the abstract, the theme of the eternal feminine, a female swimmer, is repeated to affect a modern mandala: A swimmer moves, floats in aqua-marine waters, seemingly through a kaleidoscopic view. A single image flipped and rotated in 16 quadrants forms a collage on movement, space, time, rhythm, and color. The contemporary color photograph is printed on Baryta paper, 13 x 19" (sheet size), an archival pigment print signed, dated, titled on recto (front of photo) by the artist. Edition of 5. 2- a/p's. Provenance: RF Archive *** Artist's Bio: As a photographer and visual artist, Roberta Fineberg (RF) focuses on the themes of serendipity, inventiveness, and development of ideas for her photography, video, installations, works on paper, and painting. Drawn to experimentation, she explores diverse mediums and subjects such as the ephemeral (butterfly series), stolen moments (documentary work), play, timelessness, the enduring, and significance of matter. In July 2022, Roberta Fineberg’s Double Helix was included in a Sotheby’s auction in New York City and exhibited in the preview show Contemporary Discoveries. Selected exhibitions include: Time Gallery New York (2022), Phyllis Harriman Gallery New York studio shows (2022; 2020), CADAF online art fair (2020), Gallery122 New York pop-up group show (2018), Curate NY online group show (2013), Paris Photo: Photos, Femmes, Feminisme group show (2010). RF’s photography is in private and public collections, including portraits of women writers at the Bibliothèque Nationale and Bibliothèque Marguerite Durand in Paris, France. As a visual artist she was awarded 14 laurels (2020-2021) from independent film festivals worldwide for an experimental video she made: You Will Never Beat New York (2020). RF began her career as an editorial photographer while a student in Paris in the 1980s. In France she contributed both photography and writing to publications, landing a column (photos and text) with The Saturday Review while exhibiting photographs in public spaces. Roberta Fineberg’s freelance photography appeared in Le Monde, Jeune Afrique, Paris Match, L’Officiel Femme, Ms, Weltwoche, Vanguardia, among others with images licensed through stock agencies: nonstock, Jupiter, and Getty. Photographs were selected for cover art at W.W. Norton, St. Martin’s Press, Harcourt, Bookspan, Simon & Schuster, etc. Print Regional Design Annual New York (2003) awarded her for book jacket photography for If Wishes Were Horses. Roberta Fineberg lives in New York City. *** Available at 99Prints NYC an online art marketplace for today’s collector of contemporary art, works on paper, original and limited edition photography.
